In Memory of Oscar de la Renta

Yesterday the world lost an amazingly talented designer. Oscar de la Renta passed at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 82. In his years as one of the most sought after American designers he has dressed high profile clients from first ladies to Hollywood stars. Oscar de la Renta was famous for his beautiful, graceful, and elegant gowns and will forever be remembered for the glamour he brought to the world. His last runway show was NYFW this past September where he appeared at the end of the show supported by two of the models.

His career in the fashion industry began with an internship with Cristobal Balenciaga after he designed a dress for the the daughter of the U.S. ambassador which was featured on the cover of Life magazine. Following his time with Balenciaga, the designer moved to Paris to be an assistant at Lavin. In 1963 he then moved to New York City to work for Elizabeth Arden but moved yet agin two years later to to work for Jane Derby and launched his own ready-to-wear label. He also designed the couture collections for the French house Balmain from 1993 to 2002, the first American to head a French couture house.

To celebrate the magnificent life and talent of Oscar de la Renta I have chosen a few of my favourite designs from the legendary designer.

PFW: Chanel SS '15 Handbags

Paris is one my my absolute favourite cities in the world (big surprise) and one of my dreams is to one day attend Paris Fashion Week (PFW). Unfortunately, until then I will have to suffice by live streaming the shows from the comfort of home. Chanel is a one of the most iconic french designer brands and always a must see show. Chanel has products to help everyone look their best from head to toe but my favourite Chanel products are easily their handbags.

At the Spring Summer 2015 Chanel show the runway was dressed as a parisian street with models strolling down the runway chatting to one another as they showcased the new designs. The finale even included a protest with models carrying picket signs with phrases such as "Ladies First" and "Make Fashion Not War" with an overall message to fight for women's rights.

There are beautiful and delicate floral designs on some of the handbags which are perfect for the spring and summer. There is a trend of white handbags in the collection which paired perfectly with the floral designs. I love the fact that many of the bags are larger and crossbody bags which I find are a lot more practical.

This black and white weaved leather and chain detail on this bag is classic Chanel. The chevron stitching is simple and elegant and the metal feet and full zipper keep the bag practical and functional.

These mini colourful clutches are so much fun and different. Leave it to Chanel to make math fun and fashionable with this cute red and pink clutch and make a statement with the "Ladies First" clutch. The bright yellow makes a great contrast to the black background of the bag. Both bags feature the signature CC logo as the closure and a simple chain strap.

Which bag do you like the most?

MFW: Dolce and Gabbana SS'15

I can't believe NYFW, LFW, and now MFW (Milan Fashion Week) are already over! The beautiful city of Milan showcased many amazing designers and their collections this past week. My favourite show from the week has to be the Dolce and Gabbana Spring/Summer 2015 Ready to Wear collection. The designers took inspiration from the Spanish influence on Sicily. The collection was bold, theatrical, and stunning and was full of fierce reds, daring blacks, and bright whites. The embroidery, jewels, and lace were expertly woven into all of the outfits and looked gorgeous on the runway. I loved the bold berry lips on the models as well as the chic slicked back hairstyle. Fresh red roses and carnations were used as hair accessories and looked absolutely striking on the runway! To top off the show, all of the models strut the catwalk in embellished red high-waisted shorts, white shirts, and black ballet flats, which was a spectacular way to end another  incredible show!

Check out the photos below for a glimpse of the Dolce and Gabbana SS'15 RTW show!

Which show would you want to see at MFW?

LNDFW: Marchesa

Marchesa is one of the newer high end designer brands that's famous for it's exquisite eveningwear. The company was founded in 2004 by two British women Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. The duo met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, so it's perfectly fitting that they unveil the Marchesa Spring Summer 2015 collection at London Fashion Week (LDNFW). The new looks are absolutely stunning works of art. The collection had a very beautiful romantic feel with the soft pinks, gorgeous florals, and delicate lace. There were also some darker black gowns with bright florals and birds to create stunning contrasts. The colour trends consisted of pale pinks, white, gold, and black. Check out the photos below to see a few of my favourite looks from the collection!

Which is your favourite?

TIFF: Best Dressed

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is held every September and is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the industry. TIFF is over 35 years old and has become known for generating Oscar buzz. Every year films from all over the world are screened at 34 different locations across Toronto. The festival draws celebrities from across the globe to the city to celebrate and premiere specifically chosen films. This year the ladies looked stunning throughout the festival, and I have picked a few of my favourites!

Amanda Syfried looked delightful in Valentino for the "While We're Young" premiere . The white lace top beautifully complimented the floral print skirt and the pink and purple heels perfectly matched the colours in the skirt.

Julianne Moore looked flawless in a Giabatista Valli Couture gown at the premier of her new film "Maps to the Stars". The one arm sleeve gave the elegant all  black gown a modern twist.

Despite having a wardrobe malfunction moments before hitting the red carpet, Chloe Grace Moretz looked amazing in Dior Couture at the premier of "The Equalizer".

Octavia Spencer brought a pop of colour in Tadashi Shoji to the red carpet at the premiere for her new film"Black and White". The gorgeous green colour looked fabulous on the Oscar winning actress!

Keira Knightly looked beautiful in a white Chanel dress to the premier of "The Imitation Game".  To her second premiere at TIFF, "Laggies", she wore Michael van der Ham. Her bold lips really popped against the navy blue ensemble.

Reese Witherspoon looked ravishing in a LBD from Saint Laurent at the  "Wild" premiere. Reese Witherspoon always looks classy and gorgeous on the red carpet and she did not disappoint! I love her red lips and the subtle waves in her hair.

Jennifer Aniston looked glamorous as always in an all black ensemble. She wore a Valentino top, Emanuel Ungaro skirt, and Christian Louboutin shoes to the "Cake" premiere.

Little Black Dresses were popular amongst the stars this year and Tina Fey rocked one to the premiere of "This is Where I Leave You".

Kristen Bell was glowing on the red carpet as she supported her husband, Dax Sheppard's new film "The Judge".

Anan Kendrick was busy at TIFF this year premiering three films! She wore an elegant white cutout Kaufmanfranco gown to the premiere of "The Last Five Years" (left). Anna Kendrick walked the red carpet alongside co-star Jennifer Aniston for the premiere of "Cake" in a pretty pastel floral print J. Mendel dress (center)To the premiere of "The Voices" she looked fabulous in MiuMiu (right).

The men also cleaned up well for the red carpet! They all looked handsome and even had some fun with the fans!

Josh Hutcherson looked great in a clean cut black suit for the premiere of his new film "Escobar: Paradise Lost".

Robert Pattinson looked stylish in a navy blue suit at the premiere for his latest film "Maps to the Stars".

Robert Downy Jr. looked dashing in a black suit at the premiere to his new film "The Judge".

Benedict Cumberbatch looked dapper in a navy suit, white shirt and black tie. He seemed to enjoy greeting fans at the premiere of "The Imitation Game" and posed for a fun photo.

Which movies are you excited to see on the big screen?

NYFW: DVF

Diane von Furstenberg is an amazing designer who has become an international icon. She has received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and her famous wrap dress is in the collection of the Costume Institute at the of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is currently the president of the CFDA and the DVF Spring 2015 collection falls nothing short of expectation.

Diane von Furstenberg's Spring 2015 line is a beautiful mix of colours, florals, and 50s inspired looks with a modern twist. The shorter hemlines and crop tops modernized the 50s style keeping the line fresh and current. The collection was full of fun with light fabrics perfect for walking around in a nice summer breeze. I loved that the prints were bold and feminine, while remaining easily wearable for anyone. The hot pink colours, floral prints, and flowing fabric created a flirty vibe.

Up and coming model Kendall Jenner (left) wore a black and white lace dress, while supermodel Naomi Campbell (right) strutted down the catwalk in a light and breezy spaghetti strap dress rounding out the line.

At the end of the show, Dianne von Furstenberg walked the runway adorned with a smile, greeting friends and laughing, celebrating another successful show!

What do you think about the DVF Spring 2015 collection?

Back to School Accessories

September is here and that means school is beginning! Although sitting in class and listening to lectures may not be one of my favourite activities, I do love to go back to school shopping. Starting off a new school year with new pens, pencils and accessories is always a nice way to ease back into life as a student. Here are some of my picks for fun and fashionable back to school accessories to help get you get through those first few weeks of class.

Of course one of the most import accessories for school is your backpack! I really like these backpacks because of the fun and different designs. Standout from your classmates and get a backpack that suits your fashion style and personality.

Another great accessory for school is a pencil case. I always carry all my pens, pencils, highlighters etc. in a pencil case to keep everything together and secure in my bag. This pencil case from Kate Spade features a super cute design of black framed glasses on a white background.

Kate Spade has an amazing range of products for the office and school all with charming details such as these pencils each with different memos printed on the ends. Every student needs some pencils and these found go perfectly with the pencil case.

So by now you have probably figured out that I'm a bit obsessed with everything Kate Spade, so naturally I have also picked a day planner from Kate Spade. The gold polka dot details on this planner are gorgeous and would brighten any day! This planner is great for keeping track of everything that's going on in life.

I found this product the other day while shopping at Staples and love the design. The white and back really contrast each other and look great. Again, I just really like this binder because it's very different than the traditional solid colour binds you normally see. The design is fresh and pretty and perfect way to add a touch of fun to your boring school supplies.

For those of you who use laptops and iPads at school here are some of my favourite bags and cases. Bags and cases are great for protecting your products from everyday life while allowing you to make your laptop or iPad more unique. The Speck cases come in several different colours and easily snap on to your laptop to provide it with great protection.

I also like to put my laptop in another case when I travel with it to classes. I carry my laptop in a Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve to give it extra padding while I walk around. The inside of this laptop sleeve is so soft and I always feel like my laptop is safe and secure in it.

Finally for those of you who like to bring your iPad to class, I really like this Kate Spade case. Polka dots are one of my favourite designs and I love how cute the classic black and white look is with the pop of hot pink on the inside.

Have a great school year!
