A Wicked Day

The other day I went to see my absolute favourite musical Wicked. Wicked tells the tale of the infamous Wicked Witch of the West from the classic story of The Wizard of Oz. Wicked originated as a book written by Gregory Maguire and was converted for the theatre in 2003. Wicked shows a different side to the Land of Oz and provides a new perspective into the events that lead to the Wizard, the yellow brick road and of course Dorthy. Wicked the musical became my favourite musical the first time I went to see it with my grandma 9 years ago and has remained my favourite musical ever since. The songs, the story, and the friendship are touching and full of emotion. Indina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith originated the roles on broadway and Menzel won a Tony for her portrayal of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West).

To prepare for my day in Oz I had to paint my nails green with Deborah Lipman's Elphaba and Emerald City on my ring fingers. Both polishes come from Deborah Lipman's Wicked collection designed for Wicked's 10th anniversary in 2013. The set also includes a pink glitter polish Popular named after the fun and upbeat song that Glinda sings. Elphaba is a beautiful creme green shade that matches Elphaba's skin colour. Emerald City is a green glitter polish that emulates the bight sparkling lights in the Emerald City. Together the Wicked polishes creates a perfect Ozian manicure!

Alyssa Fox played the role of Elphaba and Kara Linday played Glinda at the performance. Although Fox is actually the standby for Elphaba, I thought she was absolutely amazing and really loved her voice. When she sang the famous song Defying Gravity I got the chills and was mesmerized by the performance. Lindsay brought such a bright and bubbly personality to Glinda but also gave touching emotional performances for Thank Goodness and For Good. Both ladies brought down the house and received much deserved standing ovations!

After the show I went to the stage door in hopes of getting a glimpse of the stars! Luckily, many of the cast members came out and generously took the time to sign programs for fans and pose for photos. Everyone in the cast was so sweet and kind. Having the opportunity to chat with Kara Lindsay (Glinda), Alyssa Fox (Elphaba) and Matt Shingledecker (Fiyero) was a pleasure and I wish them all the best in the future!

Have you seen Wicked?

Beauty Junkie at the CNE

Normally, when you think of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) you think about thrilling rides, fun games, yummy food and cool exhibits.

When I think of the CNE I think about shopping for beauty products and perfume with friends. This year I got to go to the CNE with some close high school friends who, like me, love to find great deals on all things beauty! We went in the early evening because it's much cheaper (adult admission is normally $18 but after 5 pm on weeknights its only $6!) This year I ended up with some nail art pens and nail art strips. I've never actually tried nail art pens or nail strips so I figured picking some up at a great price would be a fun way to end my summer.

Of course, being at the CNE we had to play some games, ate popcorn and watched the short but sweet firework show. This weekend is the last few days of the CNE so hurry up and spend a day enjoying the summer and maybe take home some beauty goodies too!

How are you spending your last days of summer?

Long Weekend US Haul!

This weekend was a long weekend for us Canadians and I thoroughly enjoyed every second! My extended weekend began with a mini road trip across the border to Rochester, NY. We arrived at the hotel on Friday evening and got settled in for the night. Saturday morning we headed to Seabreeze Amusement Park and had a blast on the rides and splashed around in the water park!

To end off the day we went to Greece Ridge mall to do a bit of shopping! The first store I noticed as we walked through the entrance was Marshalls. I had never been to Marshalls before but I knew it was similar to Winners in Canada and thought I would try my luck and hope to find something for a good price. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to shop so I headed straight to the beauty section and passed on the clothes. The deals at Marshalls were amazing!

I found top quality nail polish, great perfume gift sets, and more. I ended up purchasing two Ciaté nail polish gift sets: a feathered manicure set and a caviar mini bar set. I had seen these products in Sephora in the past but always passed on them because of the price, but with the discount I couldn't resist! Ciaté is known for their new and different manicure sets and I could not be more excited to try out my new products! The feathered manicure looks so chic and fresh and the caviar manicure look is something I have been dying to try since I first saw it at Sephora! Marshalls was full of amazing steals which has got me curious to compare the US stores to the Canadian stores.

On Sunday we continued our shopping in Niagara Falls, NY at Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls. It was a mall full of outlet stores from Nike to Burberry. Shopping at outlet malls is always fun as you never know what you might find! Again, we were cut short for time so I only had time to pop into a few stores. I visited the Michael Kors, Coach, Burberry, and Kate Spade. I found the deals at Michael Kors and Burberry weren't too amazing and the products at Coach a bit disappointing, but I did find something at Kate Spade.

I love Kate Spade for her bright, fun, and cute products! Everything in the store was 40% off with an additional 15% off! The products were items I remembered from past collections and were not created simply for the outlet store. The store was stocked full of small leather goods, handbags, clothes, and accessories but it was the makeup bags that really caught my eye. I ended up buying a black makeup bag that says "Kiss and Makeup" which I thought was just adorable! As my makeup collection continues to grow I reasoned I could use a new bag :)

While shopping I also picked up my first Liquid Sand OPI polish in Jinx from the OPI Bonds Girls collection as well as three new lip balms from Lip Smackers (throwback to my childhood!) that are Little Mermaid themed. As you will soon learn The Little Mermaid is my absolute favourite Disney movie so I couldn't help picking up the lip trio!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Katy Perry Concert

This past weekend I was lucky enough to see Katy Perry live in concert twice! The Prismatic World Tour was full of bright sets, extravagant props, incredible backup dancers, and beautiful costumes. All of Katy's costumes were custom made for her tour by designers such as Valentino, Moschino, and Roberto Cavalli just to name a few. Earlier in the year, Katy took to instagram to give her fans a preview of what was to come by revealing the designers' sketches. Seeing those sketches come to life was absolutely amazing! The two hour set included almost all of her singles all the way from I Kissed a Girl to her latest song Birthday with a focus on songs from her most recent album Prism.

One of my favourite looks for the night were a gorgeous Valentino gown with a butterfly cape worn for her acoustic portion of the set. The cape glittered beautifully in the light and the dress flowed gracefully across the stage.

The other standout fashion moment was the beautiful ball-gown skirt and jumpsuit adorned with bright and colourful fireworks for the encore of her inspirational hit Firework designed by Todd Thomas. The dramatic outfit was the perfect end to an amazing night!

As Katy's outfits changed throughout the night so did her hair. She wore several wigs during the show including a multicoloured pastel wig, but her famous blue wig never made an appearance. In the middle of the concert she took some time to talk and interact with the crowd even handing out a hawaiian style pizza to young fan who turned out to be a vegetarian! Overall the show was a spectacle of lights, glitter, and of course great music! Katy truly puts on a fun and exciting tour and never leaves her fans disappointed.

Check out some of the photos from the night below!
